Silk

Japanese researchers recently used pgenic technology to produce silkworms capable of spitting green fluorescent or pink fluorescent filaments.

They believe that this silk is promising in fashion and decoration market.

According to Japanese media, the gene encoding the fluorescent protein of silkworm jellyfish will spit out light green silk in natural light. The silkworm's coral protein gene will spit out pink silk in natural light.

The technology was developed jointly by the Japanese Institute of agricultural biological resources and the silk technology center of the Kun Ma county.

It is understood that researchers have bred pgenic silkworm eggs that can be put into practical production.

In addition, they improved the method of silk reeling.

In the past, the method of cocoon boiling with hot water will destroy the fluorescent protein. The new method is to add medicaments at temperatures below 60 degrees Celsius and boil cocoons in vacuum cooker. This method does not destroy fluorescent protein.
