Jos van Tilburg, founder and chief executive officer and shareholder of G-Star, was born in 1959.

Twenty-first Century: what is your fashion ICON? Can you give Chinese men some advice on wearing?

Van Tilburg: original, rugged, pure and personality. I like to be cautious and fashionable, traditional and changeable style.

While adhering to the original, it has created a unique mix and match trend and does not drift with the tide.

"Mashup" is the highest rule in the fashion industry. Chinese men may still be accustomed to the idea of wearing a whole set of clothes, for example, the suit coat must be matched with the stiff suit trousers and the rubbed leather shoes. The jeans must be T-shirts, which must be broken.

Twenty-first Century: who is your favorite fashion designer? Why do you like this style?

Van Tilburg: our own brand designer Pierre Morisset!

His ancestral home is France, but he prefers to call himself European. Like G-Star, although he is based in Amsterdam, it represents the whole European style.

When he saw a motorcycle race, he saw a driver walking down the motorbike in the heavy rain. He noticed that the jeans that had been wet by the driver showed a strange shape, especially the part of his knees: the wet jeans did not return to the original shape of his straight pants, so he immediately returned to the studio and began sketching, and sent the design to us.

A few days later, the first model pants were modified and Elwood was born.

I am most appreciative of this realistic and creative design spirit.

In twenty-first Century: apart from the "designer", will you consider the cooperation with other famous designers to bring some new atmosphere to the brand?

Van Tilburg: also known as the Australian Industrial Designer Marc Newson, as a cross-border designer, his previous designs involve various exciting materials in many fields, but never used the tannin cloth that we think is the most beautiful.

Since 2004, he has worked with us to design a cowboy series that embodies the characteristics of industrial influence and design characteristics.

And we have reached a consensus that we design "not fashion, but products", the idea of "inner product is more important than appearance", which G-Star always admired, and at the same time "Just" the Product.

Twenty-first Century: the most extravagant thing for you?

Van Tilburg: of course jeans!

There are about more than 40 jeans in my closet, 20 of which are regular.

Even if I went to see the royal family and attend the dinner, I was still wearing jeans. The top was a suit and bow tie, and the jeans could be very elegant and gentlemanly.

Even if I go to the golf course, I wear jeans. If I'm not allowed, I'll change it.

Twenty-first Century: do you like your present life?

Van Tilburg: unlike many people in fashion industry, I only focus on my own brand.

Unlike others, there may be many other businesses to open restaurants, invest in real estate, and so on.

I created this brand and gave it the soul, inspired by the music, crowd and location in everyday life. Jeans are all my life and my dream.

Of course, a company that runs such a large scale can not be completely arbitrary. I like this kind of pressure.
